# Merging Assets

## Overview

Nucleus makes it fast and easy to merge asset information when it is determined that the the assets are the same physical or virtual asset.

          Note on secondary matching information

When two assets are merged, Nucleus will update the new merged asset to include secondary matching information from the asset that was merged in. This means that after two assets are merged, future asset ingests won’t result in the old assets being created again!

## Merge assets

1. From within a Nucleus project, navigate to the **Assets > Asset Management** page.
2. Using the checkboxes in the **Assets** panel, select the two assets you want to merge.
3. From the **Action** menu, select** Merge Assets**.
4. Review the details in the confirmation pop-up and click the **Yes** button if everything looks correct.

## Finding counts after merging assets

When two assets are merged, the finding counts may differ from your natural expectation. Depending on the scanning tools that populate the asset, when the asset is merged together different sources are merged together. If the two assets have findings from the same source tool, only the latest scanned findings will persist.

If there are conflicting mitigations for a scan type, the results from the latest scan from the two merging assets will persist. This means that if one asset has a mitigated finding with an older scan date, but the other one has the same finding with a more recent scan date that is active, the resulting merged asset will show that finding as active.
